Network Access Control NAC
A system that identifies every device connecting to the network (wired/wireless), verifies its identity and health, places it in the right network segment and quarantines devices it does not recognize.
When you need it
- If many guest, contractor or personal devices connect to the office network
- In environments with many IoT/OT devices, such as manufacturing, hospitals or hotels
- If audits require an inventory of "who is connected to the network"
When you do not need it
- In small offices, separating guest Wi-Fi, corporate Wi-Fi with 802.1X and switch port security are often enough.
Integrated with switches and wireless controllers via RADIUS/802.1X. Visibility (inventory) first, then enforcement. Guest Wi-Fi and the OT network should be covered too; in OT, start with visibility only.
