Law 5651 Logging & Timestamping 5651 LOG

A solution that collects access logs for organizations that count as shared-use providers under Turkish Law No. 5651 (guest Wi-Fi, stores, hotels, schools, hospitals and workplaces that give employees internet access), signs them with a qualified timestamp and retains them for the legally required period.

When you need it

  • You provide internet access to visitors, customers or students (guest Wi-Fi)
  • You give employees internet access in the office: workplaces also count as shared-use providers and must keep internal IP assignment (DHCP) logs
  • You have public-use areas such as stores, hotels, cafes, hospitals or schools
  • You may need to answer "who had this IP at that time?" in a legal request

When you do not need it

  • If you have no office network and everyone works remotely on their own internet connection, this obligation doesn't apply to you.
  • Many firewalls and hotspot solutions include Law 5651-compliant logging built in; check before buying a separate product.

Logs are collected from the firewall at the internet exit and from the systems that assign IP addresses (DHCP server, hotspot), signed with a timestamp and stored so they can't be altered. Both the guest network and the corporate network must be covered; the guest network must be on a VLAN separate from the internal network.
